7 EDITOR’S LETTER On the cover While it’s hard to draw our eyes away from the delicious doughnuts, we couldn’t think of any better way than to showcase these delectable delights, and any scrumptious bake and hot cup of tea for that matter, then on these wonderful plates and cups by Royal Doulton. Fresh, inviting and screaming ‘summer garden party’, the products are the wonderfully seasonal and will look perfect on any tabletop over the coming months. The show must go on Hello and welcome to the first issue of a new and improved Gift Focus . Editor Rachel Westall has now moved on to a new title in our portfolio, leaving you in my capable hands. Having been the editor of sister title Attire Accessories for many years now, I am delighted to present the updated format, which sees Attire and Gift Focus combined into one bumper title. Of course, I wish our exciting developments could be announced in a more stable climate, because, as we are all only far too aware, our nation, and the world, is currently going through unprecedented times, which is hitting retail hard. That said, the resilience of our industry is one to be proud of, and I touch further on this in my opinion piece on page 98. Please take some a moment out from what I can imagine is a very stressful time for everyone and have a read. In situations like these, it’s so vitally important to remain focused and positive, which I know is easier said than done when the bottom has fallen out of your business. However, like all storms, this too shall pass, and planning for the future is vital in order to remain abreast of the industry to emerge victorious, if a little battered and bruised. To this end we have a plethora of features to highlight the wonderful brands within the gift market, who need our support now more than ever. Check out our focus on weddings, tabletop, kitchenware, baby gifts, bath & body and eco-friendly products on pages 42, 39, 35, 54, 56 and 48 respectively. So for now, I wish you peace and calm, and look forward to supporting you through this time and beyond.
