94 in the most cost-effective and eco- friendly manner. However, this led us to be inventive and experiential with our marketing approach – you just have to believe there is always a solution to a problem. Tell us about your product offering. Currently, The Seed Card Company offers seven greeting card collections, which each have between 12-24 different card designs within each collection. In addition, we offer over 60 different notecard set designs and 25 different thank you card set designs. We also offer wedding suites and a corporate division creating business stationery, leaflets, packaging, and branded promotional material. What are your most popular products? Our most popular items are our greeting card collections with the top four most popular collections of cards being All the Dots, Continuous, Oodles of Doodles and Plant Pot People. Have any styles taken you by surprise with their popularity? To The Point has surprised us quite a bit as they are not for everyone – dry humour and very to the point. Interesting to also see that, for an industry where females are the main consumers, these cards are attracting the male audience. How do you keep your designs fresh and current? Do you follow trends? We do keep an eye on trends and we do believe it is important to. However, a very wise person in the industry who has been a great support shared one huge nugget of advice to us – if you are designing your cards, design based on what you would buy yourself. What sets you apart from your competitors? In all honesty, along with the seed card as our main material, we believe the level of detail we have researched for every element of our business to ensure we are eco-friendly really sets us apart. This as well as our individual extensive experience and knowledge of card and print; and that all of our collections have a genuine story behind them. How are you finding the current climate in the UK? Is it affecting business? There is an enormous drive for everyone in the UK and generally across the world to change one ‘bad’ habit in their lives, so eco-friendly and sustainable alternatives for everyday products are really getting noticed. We have definitely found this has helped the business’ initial growth, popularity and support. Are you active on social media? How is this important for the business? The Seed Card Company is very active on Facebook and Instagram. They have both been very integral for driving awareness of our brand and sales. In addition, these channels have also led to a number of trade orders. Do you have any advice for new businesses starting out in the world of gifts? Believe in your product; know everything about your business and the industry you are entering, and in a competitive industry go hard or go home. You have to make people stop and take notice. If you have the right product you are half way there but one great piece of advice I was given was: “the other half of a great product is the person behind the business. People buy people.” What can we expect in the future from the company? More greeting card collections, new product lines and a lot more seed card options.
