110 When did you start up and why? We started our business in 1949 by the firstgeneration Alexander Thurlow. What prompted you to launch the business? WWII had finished and opportunities were opening up to start up new businesses. Alexander Thurlow then travelled to Czechoslovakia to start buying glass pearls and rhinestone jewellery. What challenges have you overcome since the company’s launch? Where do we start? It has been a constant change and development over three generations. We have gone from originally supplying retail to becoming an importer/ wholesaler, and now with the huge growth of the internet we have taken on this latest opportunity and challenge. Tell us about your product offering. We offer our own unique designed flower and poppy jewellery and scarves. What are your most popular products? Our best sellers are our bluebell range in brooches, earrings, and necklets. The poppies are also a big hit. Have any styles taken you by surprise with their popularity? Yes, the Lily of the Valley brooch at certain times of the year is immensely popular, partly due we believe to an association with Morris Dancers. How do you keep your designs fresh and current? Do you follow trends? We don’t follow trends really; we just try to do our own thing, maybe just keeping an eye on popular plating finishes. What sets you apart from your competitors?
