40 Have any styles taken you by surprise with their popularity? Our Christmas designs have become a firm favourite among craft enthusiasts who deck their trees with our baubles, adorn walls with seasonal wall art and enjoy handmade Christmas vases and candles on the Christmas table. Christmas is a time for the extraordinary. How do you keep your designs fresh and current? Do you follow trends? We have five full time members in our design studio who work hard all year round – starting work on Christmas designs in early summer! What sets you apart from your competitors? Our heritage craft skills, which have been handed down from generation to generation, and being blessed with world-class designers that strive to push forward the frontiers of ceramic design. How are you finding the current climate in the UK? Is it affecting business? Moorcroft is not a disposable item, due to the incredible amount of time spent carefully hand-making each piece. As such, people often buy Moorcroft to simply enjoy art pottery and it is therefore not as price sensitive as mass produced pottery. How do you view the future of independent retail post-pandemic? As long as people love art and enjoy the creative process, Moorcroft will thrive. Are you active on social media? How is this important for the business? Social media is important to build a family of collectors around the globe and to help draw attention to the fact that art pottery is more than an object to enjoy – it is a gift from talented hands. Do you have any advice for new businesses starting out in the world of gifts? Create something that has not been seen in the world before and always be led by design. What can we expect in the future from the company? A flurry of new shapes and designs as we move into the new Caroline age. The Age of Charles First was the first Caroline Period and during this span of time the spirit of Renaissance began declining. The period, however, was very fruitful in terms of its creative writings with the likes of John Milton writing in this period and poetry flourishing. His Majesty, King Charles III, is a known to champion Art and the Natural world and so we hope that Moorcroft, rooted in the Arts and Crafts tradition, which seeks to bring the joy of nature into the home, will enter a new period of time where art and imagery from the natural world rise up to heal a world that has been through so much and where the talented people whose consummate skills creates an object are celebrated.
