Each candle is still made in the traditional way, individually hand poured in their Lakeland workshop. It is one of the reasons why their candles have a beautiful finish and release a fine fragrance throw. The dyes, fragrances and wax are all measured and blended by hand, made from recipe sheets created by master candlemaker and director James Long. Speaking to Gift Focus, James said, “Creating candles by hand gives means we can be very flexible and creative in developing new fragrances and colours, bringing them quickly to market. Each year we usually create a fragrance featured in the Pantone colour of the year. This year it was floral Blue Lilac & Lily in a Very Peri blue.” As well as making each candle by hand they also look to source quality ingredients as close to home as possible, using UK and European fragrance houses. Their tins are also made in the UK, along with their packaging and most of their labelling is produced by a local printer. However, as Director Fiona Long points out, “Making candles in the traditional way does not mean that our candles are not contemporary. We like to blend the old with the new. Developing on trend fragrances as well as making our best selling standards.” The branding of their candle ranges offers the pared down styling of their iconic Paint Pot Candles to the bold, dashing colours of their Coordinate and Triple Wick Candle range. Importantly to James and Fiona, is that a handcrafted, British made candle should still be affordable. They offer candles retailing at £20 but also have two ranges that retail for under £6. Currently they are putting their Spring range together ready to launch at the Spring Fair in Birmingham in February.
