CLARION RETAIL ANNOUNCES NEW INTERIORS OFFERING – THE HOME INTERIORS SHOW Clarion Retail has revealed details of a new offering for the interiors, accessories and lighting industry, Home Interiors Show. Produced in collaboration with key brands from the industry, the show will make its debut at the January Furniture Show held at the NEC Birmingham, followed by the first full inaugural event to take place in September 2023 at London - Olympia. Born out of a collective desire to see a wider representation of exhibitors and buyers at industry events, improved ROI and a fresh event experience, Home Interiors Show has been cocreated with key UK brands including; Gallery Direct, Pacific Lifestyle, Riva Home, där Lighting Limited, CIMC home, Hill Interiors and Libra. Peter Delaney – Managing Director, Gallery Direct, commented: “Our peers have felt frustrated that the UK home interiors sector does not offer an all-encompassing trade show for our valued clients. We need a new, on-trend format, that we believe Clarion can deliver, in a cost-effective and creative manner. We know our audience is time hungry, so want to be part of a single show format in both January and September, the busiest buying windows. We feel the new Home Interiors Show is the answer that will tick all the boxes.” Andrew Hutchison - Director, Pacific Lifestyle, added: “We exhibit at a lot of events but do not feel like the quality or quantity of buyers is always there, for our business. We feel it would be more beneficial for companies like ourselves to attend two key national events under one organiser, for improved communication and cost benefits. The proposition with the Home Interiors Show offers a solution that’s in our peak selling times, and will take place in key locations across the UK.” This new UK show will be dedicated to the interiors, accessories and lighting industry. There will be a curated selection of exhibiting brands with exclusive product launches and an expected 10,000 new and trend-led products from across the UK and Europe. A VIP Programme will facilitate business opportunities and a trends installation, in partnership with The Better Trends Company, will produce exclusive design and decor forecasts. Expert talks and interactive content will provide buyers with the latest insights, advice and inspiration. Hall 2 at the January Furniture Show, 22-25 January 2023, will be the first taster of the new event, serving the central and northern buying community. While the September show in London, taking place alongside Top Drawer, 10-12 September 2023, will be ideally placed to capture the high-concentration of Southern buyers, which dedicated research has shown do not travel to events outside of the Capital. Insight has highlighted the key time for lighting companies to launch new products is September, and so having a dedicated show that captures this peak buying window was key in shaping the Autumn proposition. The show will provide a new home for all lighting companies both in the UK and internationally. Zoë Bonser, Clarion Retail Portfolio Director, said: “We are excited to be launching this vibrant new event series for the industry, and to be doing so from such a unique position in collaboration with key leaders from the industry. Over the past few months we have gathered and analysed customer insight, listened to the industry’s pain points and responded to their needs. We are delighted to be creating something fresh and new, that is more in line with what the retail community wants for the future and that also puts the buyer at the heart of the experience, to give them exactly what they need.” Trends is the buzzword for the show. This vibrant aspirational marketplace will not only be packed with the latest product lines but also feature retail theatre experiences and expert trend advice, making it a must-visit event for the buying community of; independent retailers, department stores, multiples, online retailers, interior designers, architects, hotel and hospitality buyers, contract and furniture buyers. They join existing Made in Britain board members: Prof. Chris Harrop OBE, ESG Strategy Director, Marshalls plc (Chairman); Camilla Hadcock, Owner and Director, Roach Bridge Tissues; Peter Atmore, Head of Global Sales and Marketing, Fracino. Made in Britain members enjoy licensed use of the Made in Britain registered collective Mark, which shows clients, consumers and shippers that they can trust that a product is of truly British provenance and that it has been made to the highest manufacturing standards. Additionally, members receive support across exports, sales, marketing and PR via information services and events; feature in a searchable Product Directory used by consumers and procurement professionals to source British-made goods; and have free access to the organisation’s Green Growth sustainability programme developed specifically for manufacturers. Made in Britain Board Chairman Chris Harrop OBE said: “In the tenth year of the Made in Britain initiative, we are delighted to welcome to the board three outstanding individuals, who represent the innovation, ambition and resilience of the UK manufacturing sector today. The last decade has seen the Made in Britain Mark become a well known and well loved symbol of high quality and British provenance, and our organisation is committed to becoming a yet more influential voice for manufacturers in the years ahead.” ACID CEO DIDS MACDONALD OBE., WINS THE ENTERPRISE NATION LEGAL AWARD 2022 ACID has announced CEO Dids Macdonald has won the legal category in the UK Enterprise Nation Awards 2022. According to ACID: “It is a fantastic outcome for ACID and all designers as it further amplifies our combined voices for the importance of IP design law reform. “Dids has worked tirelessly over the last 25 years to raise awareness for issues within the landscape of intellectual property (IP) and the design industry. Her unique view of how IP works (and does not work) originates from her experience of being a designer. She understands and can personally empathise with designers and creatives. She knows how it feels to be copied firsthand and thus appreciates the tribulations facing designers to stand up for their IP rights. “Over the years, Dids, at the helm of ACID, has created a strong and supportive design community and constantly and continuously campaigned for design law reform. Through ACID’s benefit schemes, with the help of our legal affiliates, members have been supported to succeed against IP infringements, including successful mediations. Our ACID logo carries weight to it, to stamp the threat of deterrence against copycats and our ACID IP Databank ensures designers have 3rd party dated evidence. “Our successful campaigns are supported by industry leaders and listened to by the Government. Our influence is due to the recognition of our unique knowledge and support from our designers’ input, which we admire and appreciate. Dids Macdonald, OBE., CEO of ACID, said, “I’m delighted to be honoured by such a prestigious organisation. Enterprise Nation is such a great resource for SMEs. By ensuring that IP creators continually have the best possible practical tips and advice ensures IP as a positive force for growth. Paramount is the need for strong protection in, sadly, a world of copycats, so IP knowledge is strength!” “We would like to thank everyone who voted, we really appreciated your support. Also, a huge thank you to all our members and diverse creative designers who champion us and engage in our combined aims. The larger our community, the greater our voice is for positive change. “We have recently launched the ACID IP Charter to further the aims of a united design community, asking people and businesses to stand up for respect, ethics, and compliance in the design industry. If you’d like to become a signatory, you can sign here. In early 2023, Dids will be in talks with the Government for the 2023 Design Consultation. “We have asked for input from designers and created ACID’s Top Ten suggestions to propose IP reform to the IPO. Created by designers, for designers. A large element of such suggestions is aimed at cracking down on David vs Goliath situations in our continued fight for lone, micro, and SME support against the behemoths. You can view our Top Ten here. “If you would like to know more about how being a member of ACID can benefit and strengthen your IP strategy, you can take a look here, email info@acid.uk.com or call our membership team on +44 (0)845 644 3617.” 12

As the UK’s only trade event dedicated to the paper and writing instruments industry this is an incredibly exciting development that will see a broader range of products on offer than ever before. According to Mintel’s UK Hobbies and Interests Market Report for 2022, one in five adults have embarked on a new hobby since the outbreak of COVID-19. With people spending more time at home now than they did prior to the pandemic and a subsequent rise in concern for achieving the perfect work/life balance, more people are reaching to arts and crafts to destress and detox from the digital world. In a recent survey conducted by London Stationery Show to its database of independent retailers, art materials came out on top as the most popular product type stocked in store. This surpassed all other categories including notebooks and journals, diaries, writing instruments, and greeting cards, to name but a few. 32% of respondents also stated that arts and crafts are currently the biggest area for growth in their business, emphasising the increasing popularity of these products amongst consumers. Sandra Jervis, owner of Creative Cove in Lampeter, is a regular attendee of London Stationery Show and arts and crafts is a crucial part of her store offering: “Arts and crafts products are now my biggest sellers. My customers are increasingly falling in love with craft kits, not only because they are an opportunity to try something new, but because they represent great value for money. The products I sell have a really premium feel and make great gifts. Arts and crafts really do sell themselves!” 67% of survey respondents stated that they attend London Stationery Show to source arts and crafts products for their store, with an average of £47k being spent individually on arts and crafts stock per year. For art material and crafting companies choosing to exhibit at London Stationery Show, the demand for their products has been apparent. Paul Sacki, Director at Jakar International, and exhibitor at London Stationery Show cites: “The exhibition is an essential platform for us to showcase new art material product ranges to existing and potential customers and is always extremely successful for us. With no other exhibition in the UK catering for arts and crafts materials, London Stationery Show is a vital date in our calendar.” London Stationery Show is focused on supporting this evergrowing industry and is delighted to be a platform facilitating the connection between arts and crafts suppliers and stockists. www.stationeryshowlondon.co.uk 15 NEWS & EVENTS

Over 500 retailers, licensees, brand owners and representatives are expected to attend. The deadline for nominations and entries across all categories is Wednesday 8 March 2023. The entry and nomination process for all categories is free and via online submission – all the forms can be accessed from the dedicated B&LLAs website by clicking here. The B&LLAs 2023 will look to reward brand and lifestyle licensing activity which has taken place in the UK between 1 January 2022 and 31 December 2022, across Product, Retail and Property categories. In addition, the Brand Ambassador Award will also be presented to a special individual (brand owner, licensor, retailer, licensee or supplier), acknowledging their contribution to the brand licensing sector. This year will also welcome a new accolade: The Brand and Lifestyle Licensing Rising Star Award – sponsored by Brand Licensing Europe’s Retail Mentoring Programme. The new award recognises and rewards excellence among those ‘new to the brand licensing sector’ in the UK who have shown real potential in the continued evolution of the sector. It is open to all young professionals aged 35 or under (on 27 April 2023) with a maximum of five years working experience in the brand and lifestyle licensing sector. “We’re delighted to sponsor this new category at the B&LLAs. BLE’s Retail Mentoring Programme is all about showcasing the best of brand licensing to retailers who are either new to their role or new to licensing,” commented Laura Freedman-Dagg, head of retail, Brand Licensing Europe. “Over the years we’ve seen some exceptional people come through the programme, many of whom have gone on to brilliant roles in all areas of licensing. It’s a real honour to bring fresh talent into the industry and a rising star category couldn’t be better aligned with the Retail Mentoring Programme. This year we’re excited to bring a group of retail mentees to the awards to take part in a celebration of best-in-class brand licensing.” Moda puts the spotlight on footwear, announces design collaboration with De Montfort University Moda, which has become an integral fashion destination at Spring Fair and takes place from 5th – 8th February 2023 at NEC Birmingham, has announced a collaboration with De Montfort University with a design competition for final year BA (Hons) Footwear Design students. The initiative showcases incredible young talent and the future of footwear design. All 16 of the students have been invited to display their innovative designs at Moda and from nine finalists the winner will be announced at an awards ceremony on Sunday 5th February. Visitors to the show will also be given the opportunity to vote for their favourite design and the design with the most votes will receive the Buyer’s Choice Award. Alejandra Campos, Event Director, Moda says, “We are delighted to collaborate with De Montfort University supporting the local talent and the future designers to the footwear industry. The standards were very high and the innovation and creativity from the students is inspiring. I can’t wait to see their work on display at Moda and give these unbelievably talented designers the opportunity to show their work to a global audience.” The nine finalists are: Baldeep Nangla (Bobby), Woosung Kim, Gyoungryoung Kwak (Lynn), Cameron Murdoch, Jong Won Kim, Madison Harwood-Scott, Jemma Swales, Jihwi Ahn, and Alfie Payne. Their project brief was based on the Quagga, an ill proportioned cross between a horse and a zebra that was native to South Africa and unfortunately hunted to extinction in the 1880’s. The Quagga was one of nature’s hybrids that adapted its size, camouflage and natural survival capability with its surroundings. Incredibly, the Quagga is considered to be a worthy candidate to reverse engineer its genetic makeup and therefore ‘another’ biological ‘Quagga project’ is in progress to create the breed again, and hopefully reintroduce back into the wild. The Quagga evolved through specific conditions, so students were tasked to create footwear that also evolves through certain conditions and the framework was designed to disrupt the classic creative process. The Quagga was not able to maintain its own sustainability, but students could incorporate this within their product design if appropriate. Nanette Westberg-Brown BA(Hons), PGCAP, FHEA, Senior Lecturer for Footwear Design & Programme Leader for BA Footwear Design says, “The Quagga project is a unique concept that allows students to really push their design boundaries and explore niche footwear theories and innovations. The results are equally as unique as the brief! The work that the students have produced is a testament to their commitment of footwear studies; having started the programme during the pandemic and resulting lockdowns, they have overcome the challenges of facing reduced access to our facilities and practical prototyping, to excel in their creativity and design ideations. I am incredibly proud of what they have achieved so far, and I’m excited to see where their future careers within the industry takes them.” As the leading destination for footwear in the UK, Moda in February 23 will also present the industry’s most sought-after brands including Fly London, XTi, Refresh, Carmela, Chatham, Mustang, Alpe, Thomas Blunt, Lunar, Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen, Anne Michelle, Top Staka, Lazy Dogz, and many more. www.moda-uk.co.uk and www.springfair.com 19 NEWS & EVENTS

AT THE SOURCE Source Home & Gift, taking place from 5th – 8th February at NEC Birmingham, has launched to unite the best manufacturers from key sourcing regions around the world with key retailers, brands, contractors and interior designers who are looking to find new suppliers or explore private label opportunities. Here, Source Home & Gift Director of Sourcing Suzanne Ellingham tells us more… “Coming out of the pandemic, life has changed within retail for retailers and wholesalers. Research by the economist in November 2021 shows that 93% of companies involved in retailer were actively looking to transform their country sourcing strategy and that 92% were transforming their supplier relationships. Reading between the lines, companies were burnt with supply chain disruption and increasing costs, and where they can they are simply de-risking their supply chain by diversifying their county spread, which makes complete sense. However, if you layer over this that buyers simply don’t want to spend as much time on a plane, and also a desire for better, more sustainably made goods, we can see an opportunity to build a show that can really deliver. “There is a huge gap in the market for a true responsible sourcing show for home and giftware in the UK, even Europe. Source Home & Gift reflects a new vision for sustainable, ethical and inspirational product sourcing and will unite accredited and audited manufacturers from key sourcing regions around the world with high-profile retailers, brands, and designers who are looking to responsibly and sustainably source new products. “Source Home & Gift will bring over 200 audited, quality manufacturers from around the world, to the NEC to help buyers source fantastic products from great manufacturers with great processes. We have manufacturers from China, India, Egypt, Peru and even the US. It’s important to me that our show is international and has a fantastic mix of large-scale manufacturing capabilities as well as beautiful handicrafts from around the world. What is even more important is that this show is a trusted platform, every manufacturer, or maker, that exhibits at the show is able to work in the UK and supply to Europe comfortably. We are bringing the best responsible manufacturers to the show and working with governments around the world to find the best exporters with good working practices. “We will be welcoming producers and manufacturers from over 20 countries, amongst these are four dedicated country pavilions including China (showcasing 70 quality manufacturers in total), two Indian Pavilions (organised by EPCH (handicrafts association) and HEPC (handloom producers association), and an Egyptian Pavilion. “We are creating a trusted platform where buyers, sourcing and procurement professionals can have confidence that if they find someone they want to work with, then that exhibitor will not fail in their internal audits. The accreditation process of sourcing new suppliers is time consuming and often fraught with issues. By ensuring all our exhibitors have already achieved the necessary accreditations and audits, we can make the sourcing process more efficient. “We are working with governments and agencies from across the world, to bring best in class manufacturers and artisan producers to the UK to share their capabilities with the UK market. Balancing scale and quality across key buying categories, with a range of minimum order values and range of finishes, the new show puts the entire supply chain at the fingertips of buyers for homewares, gifts, furniture, textiles, toys, stationery, and let’s not forget packaging. We are taking the pain out of global sourcing, saving buyers flights around the world by bringing manufacturers right to them. The proposition of a trade show of fully audited manufacturers that at least have a Sedex audit has proven exceptionally popular with all major retailers and wholesalers. It makes Source Home and Gift a must attend event for every buyer or procurement head we speak too. “Sourcing sustainable materials and products is not as easy as it sounds. It’s always challenging because good products and sustainability is more than just what a product is made of. It’s about the carbon footprint, it’s about the labour processes, it’s about the supply chain of getting that product from a to b, and many many other considerations. Even the word sustainable means a million different things to different people. There is nothing stopping anyone from sourcing sustainably, but the reality is that finding manufacturers that not only have great products, but consider their carbon footprint, and their working policies, and still can deliver a well-made product at a good price point, on time, is the holy grail. For us it is about championing responsible manufacturing with people who are doing things in the right way. They may not be 100% there, but no one is, it’s about working with global manufacturers who are fundamentally doing the right things in the right way and are on that improvement journey alongside their own customers. “It’s important to us that we build a show full of manufacturers and makers that become trusted partners for their customers. We want to challenge buyers to source better and show them some of the best manufacturers in the world, who can take their ideas and ranging requirements and turn that into fantastic products that will sell in their store or showroom. We want to help everyone find a better manufacturer to work with, so that ‘not knowing who to work with’ is no longer a viable reason to not have better products.” www.source-homeandgift.com/welcome 20
