43 RETAILER INTERVIEW LUXURY Cassila Dolman, Founder and Owner of Lachesis London, gives an insight into the concept store that sells Brazilian-inspired luxury fashion accessories Sustainable Tell us a bit about how you came to open the business. Lachesis London is a concept store selling Brazilian-inspired ethical and sustainable luxury fashion accessories. I was a commercial lawyer for many years but always knew that entrepreneurship was a path I would pursue one day. I was born and raised in Brazil but have spent most of my lifetime in the UK. After starting a family, I decided to act upon my desire to set up my own business and Lachesis London was born. I wanted to create a business that made a difference and founded Lachesis London to celebrate Brazilian craftsmanship with social responsibility at the heart of the brand. What challenges were overcome when the company was starting out? There have been numerous challenges in setting up the brand and starting to trade. I’m based in London far away from my Brazilian suppliers, so I need to make sure that communication is open and clear – like in all forms of relationships. Very quickly, I realised that I needed to find the right people to help me with aspects of the business that were not part of my skill set, like IT and digital marketing, so I could focus on the areas where I could bring added value to the business, like legal, compliance and supplier management. In addition, being a mum to two young children whilst setting up a business required an extraordinary level of organisation and hard work (and it still does!) but it all has been very rewarding! What is your customer base? Most of my customers are women in their thirties and over, based in the UK, Europe and the USA. Being London-based means I’ve been able to take part in a few popup events and trade shows like The Spirit of Christmas so, not surprisingly, many of my customers are from the capital. What’s your USP? Lachesis London’s USP is in selling Brazilian-inspired ethical and sustainable luxury fashion accessories. Many of the products I sell can only be bought in the UK through Lachesis London and many are created by local Brazilian designers
