In letters to both ministers, the industry-wide group expressed its desire to continue open communications with the government to help drive the jewellery, silverware and allied trades forward. Back in February, then shadow minister Sir Chris Bryant approached the National Association of Jewellers to host an industry-wide roundtable to better understand the industry’s challenges, needs and opportunities. 25 individuals representing businesses and institutions throughout the breadth of the trade came together to outline the state of the industry and, in collaboration, its future direction. The industry group is keen to keep Sir Chris Bryant and the DCMS department up to speed on the progress and ongoing work. NAJ chief executive Ben Massey shares: “As a group, we welcome Lisa Nandy MP and Sir Chris Bryant MP. We are keen to continue the open dialogue and look forward to continuing a direct liaison. “All roundtable participants have expressed their desire for progress through collaboration and we are now starting to look at some of the projects in greater detail. There are challenges that not only affect our industry but many others, too. For these issues, such as the economy and skills, we want to make sure our collective voice is heard by government with clarity and enthusiasm.” FABLE ENGLAND LAUNCHES CAPSULE COLLECTION WITH NATURAL HISTORY MUSEUM British heritage jewellery, accessories and sleepwear brand, Fable England, have launched a capsule collection with London’s iconic Natural History Museum for AW24. The 38-piece collection features hand-painted enamel jewellery, illustrative print silk scarves, luxury sleepwear as well as signature Fable England bag shapes, dominated by an exclusive print created for the collection. With the natural world as their muse, Fable England thoughtfully weave stories from British literature through each of their collections, and their latest developed in collaboration with London’s Natural History Museum, is no exception. Forming a connection over their shared love of the natural world, Fable England and the museum relished the opportunity to delve into the museum’s special collections; a treasure trove of artworks, manuscripts, and rare books, to seek out inspiration for a new collection. With over 80million specimens in the museum’s archives, the challenge proved to be which narrative thread to follow. However, it was the story of entomologist Maria Sibylla Merian (1647-1717) that had a lasting impact on the Fable England team. A leading entomologist of her time, Merian had aspirations that surpassed social conventions bestowed upon a woman of the 17th century, going on to revolutionise the scientific community’s understanding of the life cycle of insects. www.fableengland.com 4
