57 UP AND COMING How are you finding the current climate in the UK? Is it affecting business? I won’t be the only one that is going to tell you it’s tough. However, we built the business to try and move the dial and offer people an alternative to the way it’s always been done. Next year you’ll see some new products that keep to the philosophy of grow your own and secure your own food security future, and we will do this whatever the economic climate is because it’s the right thing to do. How do you view the future of independent retail? We think it’s important that independent retailers look to offer products that have a surprise and delight element so that the customer is captured in the moment. Our experience is that most people don’t even know that the concept of a Grow Your Own Kit exists, or that they can buy fresh Lions Mane to eat, so when they see it the decision to buy can be a quick conversion. Are you active on social media? How is this important for the business? Yes and we actually have a dedicated person who is amazing and we get such great engagement. It’s vital for our business. Do you have any advice for new businesses starting out in the world of gifts? Go with your heart and your head. If it feels right for you then the passion follows and consumers need to have different experiences that enhance their wellbeing and relate to their values. Be creative, trust your instincts and go for it. What can we expect in the future from the company? Consultancy – we want to work with large corporate organisations to develop amazing ESG improving solutions like vertical farms, hydroponic systems within their premises of composting eco systems to strive to be carbon negative – it can be done!
